Every student wishing to study abroad needs to take some English proficiency examination such as IELTS or TOEFL, with out passing one of the two exams it is almost impossible to study in a foreign country. Exams

International English Language Testing System or better know as IELTS is an exam accepted around the world, believed more widely accepted in Europe, Australia and Canada; IELTS is now accepted in over 3,000 institutions in the United States.

IELTS is a standardized test administered by the British Council, IDP Education, and Cambridge English. We see nearly 2.5 million people take the exam each year needing it for immigration, professional and academic purposes. The exam consists of 2 types (general and academic) and 4 parts: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Reading 60 minutes
Writing 60 minutes
Listening 40 minutes
Speaking 11-14 minutes
Total 2 hours 45 minutes

The highest score a student can score on the IELTS examination is a 9, the lowest being a 1 (unless an examinee fails to show up, then a score of 0 will be given). An examinee’s scores are valid for 2 years after the test date and may take the exam as many times as they wish. IELTS is offered up to 4 times a month/48 times a year with more than 1,000 testing centers in 140 countries there is probably one near you.

 

Test of English as a Foreign Language better know as TOEFL is an exam accepted around the world, believed more widely accepted in the United States, although it is also accepted in other countries.

TOEFL is a standardized test administered by Educational Testing Service (ETS). The exam consists of 4 parts: reading, writing, listening and speaking. ETS also administers a TOEFL JR exam but that is for junior high school students and cannot be used for studying abroad in university, in addition many high schools prefer the standard  military laser pointer.

Reading 60-100 mintues
Listening 60-90 minutes
Break 10 minutes
Speaking 20 minutes
Writing 50 mintues
Total Average: 3 hours 45 minutes

The highest score a student can score on the TOEFL iBT examination is an overall score of 120; each individual section is scored out of 30 points. An examinee’s scores are valid for 2 years after the test date. TOEFL is offered more than 50 times a year with more than 4,500 testing centers in 165 countries.
